Welcome Back
Dear David Barton Parents & Students,
On behalf of the staff at David Barton Elementary, I am happy to welcome you to the 2025–2026 school year! Our team has been working hard to prepare for another successful year of learning and growth. We are nearing the completion of Phase 2 of our building project with updated improvements that enhance school safety and maximize our learning spaces. We anticipate these projects will be completed in time for our Back to School Night on Thursday, August 14th. If any adjustments to parking are needed, we will communicate them with you. We can't wait for you to see the work that has been accomplished this summer!
We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Kelsey Strubel as our new assistant principal at David Barton Elementary. Mrs. Strubel brings a wealth of experience in supporting student learning, building positive relationships, and fostering a strong school community. She is passionate about partnering with staff and families to ensure every student feels safe, valued, and inspired to reach their full potential. You will see her actively involved in classrooms, school events, and daily activities, and we are confident she will be a wonderful addition to our team.
We value our partnership with families and recognize that the most significant impact on a child’s success comes when school and home work together. Here are a few ways you can support your child’s learning this year:
Ensure your child attends school daily, arrives on time (by 8:05am), and is ready to learn.
Check your child’s backpack each day for notes from school and incomplete work. Support your child in completing and returning assignments.
Encourage your child to read at home regularly to develop a love of reading and strengthen their literacy skills.
Communicate often with your child’s teacher through ParentSquare, email, or phone.
Attend DBE events and stay involved in your child’s academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth.
Here are a few upcoming and important events/procedures to prepare you for the new school year.
Annual Information Update/Enrollment & Registration:
Prior to Back to School Night, please complete the Annual Enrollment & Registration process online. This year, all families are required to provide residency information, even if you have not moved recently. For details on how to do this, visit the “Back to School Hub” on the Boonville School District website at www.bpsk12.net.
Back to School Bash at Lion’s Park: Sunday, August 10th from 11:00am-3:00pm
Pick up FREE school supplies for K-5 students (a special thanks to the Boonville Kiwanis Club)
Back to School Night: Thursday, August 14th from 5:00-7:00pm
All students/families are welcome between 5:00-7:00pm to meet the teacher, drop off school supplies, and tour our new building spaces.
News from Nurse Lainey: If your child has a health concern (asthma, food/medication/insect allergies, diabetes, or any other medical condition) please stop by the Health Office to fill out a form and discuss your student's needs with the school nurse. Additionally, if your student takes a scheduled daily medication or any other prescription (including inhalers), please bring these with you to Back to School Night. Questions or concerns can be emailed to lainey.byrd@bpsk12.net.
As we partner together for a safe and successful school year, please keep the following in mind:
Health Updates: If your child experiences any changes in health - such as a new diagnosis, medication, injury, or surgery - please notify us promptly by phone or email so we can best support their needs at school.
Prescription Medications: For safety reasons, prescription medications should never be sent in a student’s backpack. All medications must be brought to the front office by an adult and must be in the original container with the prescription label clearly displaying the student’s name.
Over-the-Counter Medications: Our health office maintains a supply of commonly used over-the-counter medications (such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc.) for student use only if permission has been granted in Infinite Campus. Please ensure your permissions are up to date.
Documentation for Appointments: Please submit written or electronic documentation for doctor, dental, counseling, or other appointments so that we can accurately record excused absences for attendance purposes.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our students safe and healthy!
Arrival and Dismissal: Front doors open at 7:45am. School begins at 8:05am and ends at 3:15pm.
Walkers/parent drop-offs/pick-ups should use the main DBE entrance off of Locust Street.
Bus riders will use the back doors off of Gmelich Street.
We will have an early dismissal on August 19th at 1:15pm.
Breakfast and lunch are FREE to all students. Breakfast (optional) is served from 7:45 to 8:00am.
Bus Transportation: Bus transportation requests are a part of the online enrollment process. All requests must be made by Friday, August 8th to ensure ridership on the first day of school. First Student will be available at Back to School Night. Parents may also contact the bus barn directly at 660-882-7421.
As we count down the final days of summer, we hope your family finds time to relax and recharge. We’re excited to welcome students back on Tuesday, August 19th, and look forward to an amazing school year ahead. If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please don’t hesitate to contact me or Mrs. Strubel. We’re here to support your child and your family every step of the way.
It’s going to be a great year!
Warmly,
Kim WalkerPrincipal, David Barton Elementary School
